I'm still here... just have had a rare spurt of work this week, so I definitely not used to that! Not that I think the future prospects of my personal work situation has improved any this week, but it's nice to have the delusion that things seem to be okay... if only it's temporary.
Another reason I haven't been on here is that I got an interesting comment to this blog on Sunday night. While I haven't lost any sleep over it, it was still a bit disconcerting. My knee jerk reaction was to delete it (which I did), but on second thought I should have just kept it in. And while I don't want to encourage negative commenting by giving it attention, I am still go ahead and post that comment here and now.
This comment was on this shirtless-related post from late last week:
Dude, aren't you, like, in your 40s or something? If you were a straight guy posting semi-naked pictures at your age of hot young chicks, you'd be looked at as scary and pathetic and a borderline menace. Just because you're all about the sex every minute of every day doesn't mean you can't finally shut up about it and grow up a bit.
Discuss! :-)
For myself, I really don't know where to start addressing the criticism. One thing I can say with a good deal of confidence is that this person hasn't visited the blogs of many gay men (many who are of my advanced age - gasp! - and even older!), because I certainly think I am on the lighter side when it comes to posting "semi-naked pictures" (though admittedly I got through streaks/phases)... and to think I have struggled even with the idea posting pictures that even may feature a bare derriere (I can think of 4 of 1700+ posts that went that far! And a quick check shows a whopping 6.1% of all my posts have an "eye candy" tag on them)... and for sure, the only dangling participles you'll see on this blog are of the grammatical error variety... which, again, I think is pretty darn gosh puritanical vs. other gay blogs.
And beside this is all about fun... providing a distraction for both myself and my readers, and I don't think there is, or should be, any age limits/restrictions on that! In fact, that particular post that caused this furor was only my response to search hits that were causing folks to visit my blog in the first place... so, if anything, I was just providing a service... giving people what they were asking for... ha!
Anyhow that's it... again, I am taking full advantage of a blog that has 'whine' in the title... a chance to whine/vent... get my thought out to the universe... let it go!
UPDATE: Thanks for the comments, I'd be fibbing if I didn't say part of my motivation (subconscious, then after some thought, quite conscious) was to get a bit of support/positive reinforcement! I am definitely one of those folks who can hear 50 nice things, but the 1 negative thing will send the self-esteem into the gutter. Anyhow, I did do a bit of snooping and the comment came from the Washington DC area... and did not come via a search engine, nor did they stay very long... so a bit strange, but oh well!

Wow. Yeah, exactly what you said! And you are not "all about the sex every minute of every day." And even "if you were a straight guy posting semi-naked pictures at your age of hot young chicks," I'd say you would NOT "be looked at as scary and pathetic and a borderline menace." Anyway, these are celebrities, for frick's sake.
Like a good writer, you know your audience, of which I am proud to be a member. ¡Viva!

To repeat Jeff - Wow. The comment seemed a bit harsh. Who knew you were all about the sex every minute! You didn't put that in your recent "things about me" post. You cover a nice variety of topics. So what if you post a photo every now and then? Don't change a thing!
(by the way - how did the person that posted the comment get here?)

COMMENT TO THE PERSON WHO LEFT THAT COMMENT
"...If you were a straight guy posting semi-naked pictures at your age of hot young..." WTF?
Dude, if you're going to comment on other people's blogs, at least learn how to compose a sentence. I've been reading this blog for a long, long time and have yet to see anything offensive or...OMG!...Jason Lewis is showing his nipples in the E!

Hi,
I find your blog delightful and extremely tasteful and entertaining. I'm sorry that I haven't stopped by more often lately. I know it's hard to not let that ONE negative comment throw you but remember that if you had thirty visitors that day and only one was disgruntled, then that's a very high rate of satisfaction amongst your readers. If you truly posted something offensive, then I'm sure that more people would have spoken up.
Take the cranky posters word with a grain of salt. Some people absolutely live to be displeased.

Hey Ed,
I love Whine and Cheese! Don't change a thing because of some lame comment. My motto is if you don't like it, don't read it.

I'm so sorry you had to get such a nasty comment, Ed. I really enjoy reading your blog and don't think you should change a thing!! Plus, I don't think you (we) are ever to old to admire hotties :)
