WARNING: IDOL Spoilers Through Last Night's/2nd Hollywood Week Episode
While I am glad American Idol is giving more hours to Hollywood Week (in past couple of seasons, I think it's been only 1 or 2 episodes), it still seems like we're getting the shaft. I complained the other night that they seemed to be giving more air time to the judges comments... comments about singing that we never heard! Or else, were just getting snippets of ... oh, they're through, so is this person and that... and it's the end of the road for this one... as usual, I am sure there are some folks who made it to Hollywood that did get more than 20 consecutive seconds of air time... oh, well!
I know that the Hollywood Week survivor (Top 36) list is out there, I have not looked at it. One person that I thought heard made it through was David Osmond, but he was given the not so ceremonious dump last night. And that was my major beef after last night's show, in that we seemed to lose a lot of people that got a lot of screen time (in a Freudian slip, I had originally typed "scream time")... this is time I'll never get back! (BTW, just jokin' here... I know some folks will say watching "Idol" at all is not exactly "living your best life," Oprah's version or not!). While I know some of them would never get through (aka "Bikini Girl"), I was still a bit surprised that orphan "what was she doing in the diva group" girl (Rose) and rocker pink-haired chick didn't make it after some serious time devoted to their back stories... and I think "like to dance naked" girl got cut last night, I am not even sure he got highlighted but I thought I saw her as one of the collapsing 'sorry back row' people. So who knows!
I am guessing they are holding out one some folks who probably make it through and will have plenty of air time later... these include that Amazon-y girl... "Ryan, he can't high five" blind guy... and Jason Castro's pink haired younger brother. And yes, if you haven't figured out I pretty much don't know anyone's names yet and must refer to them as their storyline or obvious traits... as the title of this post promised, here are some of my early favorites:

From left to right, we have Slumdog Millionaire Guy, Dead Wife Guy, and Lil Rounds...
Yes, I actually know here... I just loooooove her name and like to say it over and over again, Lil Rounds Lil Rounds Lil Rounds! ... okay, you get it... though I do have to say her solo take "I Will Always Love You" (Whitney version, of course!) on the 1st "day" of Hollywood Week almost busted my eardrums... and in another sign that I am turning into a cranky old man is that I have found a lot of these contestants to be VERY VERY LOUD. I know loud and long is often viewed as "good" lately, but I hope Lil and the others turn it down a notch (or two, or three) in future performances.
The other guys do have names (though I had to look 'em up!), I have been impressed with Anoop Desai (aka "Slumdog") and his soulful voice, we haven't really seen much of him, but it looks like he gets some air time if the previews of next week show are any indication. And while I think Danny Gokey (aka "Dead Wife Guy"... and yes, I know that is sooooo inpolitically correct, but that's what they put in my mind) seemed a tad overconfident in stand-out group performance that kicked things off last night... I still like his voice... and if this doesn't work out, I think he's already a lock to play Mark in RENT (though unfortunately not on Broadway, though I'm guessing a revival is probably a year or two away)!

I really like these three as well, but it seems they haven't shown much "Anoop Dawg" this week. I'm also a fan of Adam Lambert who did get some air time last night. And I finally saw a bit of Jonny Lang's sister (Jesse Langseth), but I couldn't tell if she'd made it to the next round or not. I'd rather they would have shown more of the groups singing instead of all of the Bikini Girl drama.
And I still really hate the fake drama over the "step forward/step back.. just kidding you all made it!" Never found that amusing, just a bit cruel.
But dramatic and cruel = American Idol, and I watch anyways!
