It's the 4th week of 2009 for the Photo Friday Challenge, but I am just getting to my first submission for the new year. I couldn't quite come up with anything for the first three challenges of the year: Disorder, White, and Meditation (kind of surprised by the second one, but alas nothing jumped out).
This week however was an embarrassment of riches with Iconic! As Todd will happily tell you, I love my icons and can take more pictures that one can possibly imagine!
I had a lot of the obvious landmarks. My mind immediately went to Eiffel Tower, but I have already submitted 2 Eiffel pics, plus 3 more have been from Paris (and I've only submitted 11 pix, so nearly 50%!)... so it was probably time give that a rest. Again, a lot of Beijing stuff to choose from... I almost went with a crisp shot of the Statue of Liberty since that is iconic of our county and of freedom in general... or even a shot from our Colorado trip that certainly is the epitome of purple mountain majesties... or heck, even old MINI Coopers!
So while there were those less obvious choices, in instances where I couldn't make up my mind, I have deferred to a photo where I have actually used the word in the title or description.. thus I this week, I went with a photo I had dubbed: London Icons Old & New.
I love that juxtaposition of the old and the new, so I was glad that I captures this iconic two-fer of the London Eye through the Parliament bell tower (no, no not Big Ben... which is the bell inside the tower! yeah, yeah). Though even in my London set, I had a pretty good selection of the old/new iconic contrasts:
Tower of London & Egg-Shaped London City Hall
Tower of London & Egg-Shaped Swiss RE Skyscraper
St Paul's Cathedral & (the non-Egg-Shaped) Millennium Bridge

"Look kids!" "Big Ben, Parliament!"
