Todd left for his big business trip to Asia yesterday morning... and safely arrived this morning.
Here's how he spent the last 24 hours or so:
Phoenix to Minneapolis - 1,276 miles (3 hours, 2 minutes) - yes, a head-scratcher of a connection to Asia!
Minneapolis to Manila (via Tokyo) - 7,818 miles (17 hours, 30 minutes) - pretty sure that's flight time, not including the 2.5 hour layover in Tokyo... where Todd had to get off the plane and go thru security all over again!!
For the weekend he is off to Singapore - 1,474 miles (3 hours, 30 minutes) then..
Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 208 miles (55 minutes) -- a puddle jump!
The the big return home:
Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles - 8,805 miles (16 hours, 5 minutes)
LA to Phoenix - 370 miles (1 hour, 22 minutes)
That comes in just under 20,000 miles and approximately 42.5 hours of flight time over 12 days... egads!
What did I just say about wanting to travel internationally some time again?!
Anyhow, this is going to be a long trip for both of us. While Todd's trip sounds exotic, it's not... first off, it's work and a large majority of his time will likely be folks yelling at him (in English and other native languages) and then there was the whole fact that his cab was searched for bombs prior to pulling up to his hotel and he had to go through a metal detector and a luggage search prior to entering the hotel... though he tells me that otherwise the hotel is very nice. And while he enjoyed spending some time in Kuala Lumpur during a past trip, his work is outside the city so he just flies in and out of KL.
Working from home I go through phases... sometimes it's a compelling urge to "have to get out of the house" (aka "cabin fever") and other times it's just the opposite, a mild case of agoraphobia where I am quite content not to leave.
Lately, I've have been experiencing a bit of that inward turn of late... so I'll have to make an effort to get out. My work communications is largely e-mail based (totally fine with me)... so I rarely talk to clients and since my business partner moved out of state, I hardly ever chat with her (think it's been twice in the past 6 months!)... so I have to exercise those vocal chords every now and then... ven it's just a drive-thru order... note to self: eat something than frozen pizza!

Tell you what: Next time I'll got in place of Todd.
I'm giving like that.

Hmm how odd for me to know exactly which hotel did the bomb scan. :)
Then again I do reside here and had that bomb sweep done on my car too when I've gone to that very hotel. It's more prevalent these days simply because they tend to be American hotel chains, and they're a little extra cautious about security. We're a stable nation (just don't try to separate us from our food - in which case you'd see bloody riots) so your Todd should escape unharmed bar any run-ins with slightly *too* friendly hotel staff :P
