Trophy Wife... and Mom

Quite the unusual sight on the tennis court this past weekend.
Yes, that's a trophy is former #1 women's tennis player Lindsay Davenport's right hand... but in her other hand... her son, Jagger ("I'm not named after Mick") Jonathan Leach. (Married to Jon Leach since 2003, Lindsay has wisely retained her maiden name)
Now, there have been moms that have played on the women's tour... but I am guessing, Lindsay was the first player to win her comeback tournament.
So let's see, she wins the title on September 16th 2007-- pretty much one year since she played her last match before announcing her pregnancy -- and giving birth (Caesarean!) on June 10th 2007... that's 98 days later!
Now I am certainly no expert on the female body, but that seems pretty darn incredible to me... plus at 31 years of age is pretty much "old lady" status on pro tennis circuit.
Granted it was a Tier III tournament... which is fairly low-rung, but for some strange reason the Bali tournament always seems to be able to draw higher caliber players. Could it be the tropical island setting? Resort hotel? Hmmm... But, with match wins over the tournament's top two seeds, #12 ranked Daniela Hantuchova and #3 Jelena Jankovic, Davenport's victory was earned and certainly a surprise to many, including Davenport... even speculating her pregnancy gave her "magical powers." With few points remaining on her computer ranking, the #234 ranked Davenport climbed 80 spots (to #154) with the win.
Lindsay plans to continue on... she is playing in Beijing this week, where she has a pretty favorable draw, and heading Down Under for the Australian Open in 2008. Hope little Jagger has already signed up for a frequent flyer program!
