On Saturday, we bought a refrigerator. This is the last of our major appliances to be replaced since the move. I guess I should stop speaking of it like it just happened, since it's been 5 years now... so on Friday, we bid adieu to Todd's 17-year old fridge that made the journey into this house... we thank you for your service.
We have been thinking about it for awhile, but seriously started looking around over Memorial Day weekend... and decided just to get it over with this past weekend.
Initially, we were thinking of getting one of those new french-door style ones with the freezer on the bottom. It seemed to make perfect sense... having the refrigerator at eye-level and having to stoop down for the lesser used freezer (we have the "old school" freezer on top type).
But after opening and closing what seemed like hundred of refrigerators over that weekend, I slowly realized that the side-by-side would be a better option. While some of those bottom freezers do have pull-out shelving, they are basically big boxes and it seemed like you would have to stack things on top of each other... which would lead to "if I don't see it, it's not there" syndrome. Also, still being a bit frugal at heart, I had a hard time justifying the (generally) higher cost of the french door models (especially if you wanted ice and water on the door, something that will be "new" for us)... after all, it's just a refrigerator.
And I also managed to survive all this refrigeraTOR shopping and buying without being becoming a homicide statistic. Much to Todd's pleasure, I felt the need to pronounce that particular word just like Gwen Stefani does in The Sweet Escape... often preceded by the musical mumble jumble...
badink ka ba, chinka boo da, badink a ba arrr... refrigeraTOR!
So we eagerly await for Friday's delivery... with Monday morning being garbage pickup, we did a major refrigeraTOR archaeological dig and purge on Sunday night... and this week we try to use up as much stuff in the freezer as we can... how we're going to get thru all that ice cream (sidenote: Ben & Jerry's Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream is quite good!), I just don't know!
Pictures of the new fridge may follow... but then again, I may come to my senses and realize that writing about and posting pictures of household appliances is dipping a bit deep into the blogging bucket.

Congrats on your new appliance. We actually did by the French Door Style when we moved into our house in 2004. We do love it. Not as much stuff gets lost in the freezer as we would have thought.

Hee, go ahead and blog about the appliances! In fact, when I started to read this post, my immediate thought was, are there pictures? ;-)
