Happy New Year!
I know today is supposed to be all PollyAnna-ish... see the promise and light of a brand new day... blah, blah, blah... but I am ready for a "do-over!"
Work did not cooperate and allow me to get re-use to the idea of having to work for a living... it was 0 to 60 this morning! I had some warning. After not hearing from the client for several weeks prior to the holidays, they email on Saturday and Sunday (New Year's Eve!) with the "go-ahead." Plus another huuuuge project that was supposed to hit next week, ended up in my in-box this morning. The client started the e-mail off with a cheery "Happy New Year!"... well, thanks... but there is nothing terribly "happy!" about getting 12+ hours of work a week early! Especially not capping the e-mail off with... "let me know when you think I'll have something."
Though the "welcome back to the real world" feel was already creeping in yesterday.
We decided to dismantle or the outdoor and indoor holiday decor. So it was pretty much the carriage turning back into the pumpkin for this Cinderella. We usually keep things up a bit into the New Year, but it seemed like it would be too long to wait it out until next weekend. Heck, many of our neighbors were already taking their lights down the day after Christmas... we were one of the few houses in the neighborhood that was lit up on New Year's Eve... even frickin' 10,000+ light, dozens of cardboard cut-outs Christmas was dark the day after and pretty much dismantled by the new year.
But despite this new year grumpiness (oh, and a presidential funeral does nothing to help one's mood... no matter the political affiliation), we really had a nice week off.
As you gathered by the dearth of new entries last week, I managed to remove myself... for the most part... from the PC. Still worked a few days last week, but nothing too bad. Todd did a bit of "vacation" telecommuting... but it was very nice to have a week to ourselves. It's not often we are just home for a week, with nothing really to do. The bad part was that we tended to sleep in just a bit later each day... so this morning's pre-5:30 a.m. wake-up call was pretty rough!
There were some notable accomplishments:
We did a big garage "purge" and made two trips to the town dump... this allowed us to... drumroll please... park all three cars in the garage! There were a few other obstacles that made us think it could not be done (i.e. built-in cabinetry), but it ended up being just some junk in our way. We still have another "dump" trip to go... but that will be the proverbial icing on the cake.
I also finished my 25th book of the year... and started my new reading "challenge" for 2007... more on both those things in the near (hopefully!) future!
We managed to tame the TiVo! For the first time ever, we are caught up on Battlestar Galactica (we were 6 episodes behind going into Christmas!).... and also watched quite a bit of not junk TV ... a couple of Frontlines, a trio of Extreme Engineerings, In the Womb: Animals... plus a couple of movies (in HD, of course!)... Hotel Rwanda and a first re-viewing of Brokeback.
So, I guess I should get back to the work that I was bitchin' about... I guess it is only appropriate that my first blog entry of 2007 is a "whine." Hope your re-entry back into the real world is going well!
