Thoughts on last night's TAR episode "The Family Christmas Card"
Well, I don't think I have ever said this but I am about ready for a TAR season to come to an end. With only one venture outside of the country, this family edition was just too claustraphobic (though JD, I was thinking of you when the Teams were racing around Wyoming). It is hard to get excited when a 90% of Phil's voice-overs started off with "Teams must now drive 34 miles," not exactly the "wow" factor of "Teams must now fly 2700 miles" of prior seasons. Thankfully, I have read rumors that team sightings for the next Race (set to air in March?) are well outside the States.
That said, I don't think there could be a better set of teams going into the final leg. We have the likeable and prohibitive favorites in the Linzes, the equally likeable underdogs in the Bransens, and the "villian" team of the Weavers. There needs to be a team to root against going to the finish line, so I was not all the upset that the Weavers (dubbed, in even a little poor taste for me, the "Grievers") took the final spot from the Godlewski sisters.
However, the Philimination of the Godlewskis was a little sad for another reason. There seem to be a lot of teams that go into the Race (wishfully) thinking that it will improve something in real life... of course, a financial situation in trying to win the $1 million... but most times something personal. While I am sure the Paolos are still screaming at each other back in NY, you still sensed the Race accomplished something for them. Not so with the sisters, it was clear they had issues going into the Race and it only seemed worse in the post-Philimination interview. I always find it a little sad when I hear family members say they "love, but don't like" each other.
So, needless to say, I am rooting for the Linzes to win it all... I liked them from the very moment Phil curled his eyebrow and yelled "Go!"... wouldn't be disappointed if the Bransens pulled the upset... and well, if the Weavers reach the finish line first, TAR6's Freddy & Kendra may just lose their spot as my least favorite winners.

I like the Linzes, too. They are having fun and they seem to be getting smarter. The Bransens are likeable, too (especially now that Wally has shown his daughters that he is actually contributing). As for the Weavers, the Christian thing to do is keep my mouth shut.

I lived in Cody for six months, so I got way too much of a kick out of seeing them at the Irma. And I loved them trying so hard to ask for directions--there's pretty much just one main street in Cody (which they all drove in on) and the Irma is right on it, there's no way they would have missed it.
And boy, does the Irma make good breakfast eats. However, if you want burgers, you need to go to the Proud Cut one block away :-).
